Sports Injuries Support Group
Sports injuries are injuries that are caused by participation in a sporting activity. In many cases, these types of injuries are due to overuse of a part of the body when participating in a certain activity such as runner's knee or tennis elbow.
I rehabbed from a couple ligaments tears in HS, went on to play in college, and unfortunately suffered numerous other knee injuries and surgeries during my career. I now have daily pain from some of my injuries, and ended up getting 9 surgeries to correct them.
I know that sounds very doom and gloom (surgeries are gloomy), and this next part might sound kind of insane- but maybe it will make sense since you're a player. I still don't actually regret playing basketball. I regret getting hurt, definitely. But I got to play the sport that I absolutely loved at the highest level for 4 years, and not many people can say that. Will I pay for it later? You betcha. But people get arthritis for no reason at all. Also, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that everything has a price, but if you weigh it and playing is worth it, I would encourage you to do everything you can to help yourself stay healthy (bulk up your leg muscles, eat healthy, get good rest). Hope that helps you some.
You've had a lot of injuries. and you need to think about what your ultimate goal will be and BE REALISTIC about it. There is a long term risk, and if you want to have kids and a family, and be able to play with your kids. I would really give this some serious thought.
Trust me, there is nothing more satisfying that playing hoops with your kids. Perhaps that is what your parents are thinking about.
Good luck son
