I joined this site yesterday and just ran across this support group. I am GOING TO GET SOBER! I did not drink last week at all, then slipped over the weekend. I was hungover and filled with anxiety yesterday, and I did not drink last night! I am just starting over, keep on keeping on! I CAN DO THIS! I am now over 1 full day without a drink and I feel great! One day is better than none!
Because I slipped over the weekend, I have been pre-planning the upcoming weekend for things that do not involve alcohol. The water park, movies, finishing unpacking my new house, etc. I have a person I can call that will be supportive should the urge strike! But I am counting on the Big Guy (God) and myself, and together we can do it!
One day sober may not seem like a lot, but it feels really good for me!

Thats so awesome ML.Try playing out your day that you would normally drink in your cell phone.Just talk to yourself and play out each drink. After you do this the desire might fade away.Go from the first drink to the last in your head and you will wonder. Is it worth it.

Congrats to you for making the decision! Weekends are the hardest for me also. Try to make some plans that don't revolve around drinking activities, if you can. It does get easier - 116 days here, going strong. I think the main thing that keeps me sober today is not wanting to start over at day 1. Hang in there - you can do it!!! Jan

Weekends are hardest for me too - HA, AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE A JOB! It's because my BF deems Saturdays as okay to drink, even though he'd rather I didn't. He obviously doesn't really get how this works :)

one .....one.....one? everything has a beginning unless it's like the useless cycle of drinking. I guess even that had it's beginning, but for you now it has an end. It's hard the first few days. I am over 40 days and still going through mild withdraws...currently my entire body is itching mostly my palms and feet....go to the dr. tomorrow...I do not know if this is your first time or not. I wonder because I am unaware if you know what is available to you in this new world of being. Wait till you can sleep on your own again and nopt have to drink till you pass out....at least that's what I did everynight for years....this is a huge deal because it's the beginning of something extraordinary and life changing and the more days ylou get the more self empowered you feel until your new way life becomes autopilot and cravings don't start the whole thinking process that lead up to a relapse....remember it's not tholughts that ruin everything....it's how you react to those thoughts....good luck and there are lots of people who want to support you on here including me!!

In the beginning, I just tried to hold out til the liquor store was closed for the day, then it was getting through the next.

Whoa! I just now realized this post is a year old? I'm confused. Well, if that is the case, how are you doing now?

Well I blew over the weekend also and I'm starting over again. One day sober! It seems like when I get off work it is the hardest. I want to go have a drink and relax before I cook and do everything before the next day. Best of luck to you!
