I had a chronic cough, wheezed, and occaisional heart palpitations- all gone now after I quit over a year ago.
It really is possible to quit. I learned SO much right here on this site and with the support from others here, I finally quit. You can too.
I suggest you get prepared first, which means making your environment safe from ALL smoking stuff. Read old posts and I highly recommend you read Allen Cars book which I will find the link and post it here in a minute. It takes work to quit- it wont just happen. And a big part of your success depends on your attitude about smoking. You have to start believing in yourself as a non smoker and resisting the temptations, staying strong no matter what. When you truly want this more than you want to smoke- yoiu will be on your way.

Then you work up to one hour at a time.
Slowly it becomes a day at a time.
And then one day you realize you have this great sweet smelling life and the hell was worth it.
Thats a great idea having a quitbuddy. Maryanne and lil sim3 are now quit buddies. So you wont be able to have a few in the morning Sim cos Maryanne is counting on you to quit and stay quit.
You ask why is it so hard to kick, well thats because we are physically and psychologically addicted to cigarettes, and its a hell of an addiction to conquer.
You need to be prepared. Do some reading on whyquit.com because knowledge is power when you are trying to beat this addiction. Choose your method and then your quit date. Well in your case your quit date is tomorrow.
Now go buy some lollies to suck and buy Alan Carrs book "Easy way" You can read that in the first few days of your quit.
Write down all the things you hate about smoking. Heres a few to start
its killing you, robbing you of your breath, making you more suceptible to cancer, compromising your heart and lungs, costing you a small fortune and is socially unacceptable. Put the list where you can see it and read it as many times as you can thriughout the day.
You can do this but you have to be committed.
