It takes your body time to adjust after all smoking is an addiction so give it time.
However, it could be anxiety...seriously.
I have experienced 2 full years of anxiety since my quit and am learning to overcome it and am feeling much better these days.
There are tons of symptoms associated with anxiety and breathing issues are one of them.
I hope you don't go back to smoking though......
I suspect that the infection made your breathing more labored, and your subsequent thinking about it led to some anxiety.
Anyways, just throwing that out there as a possible cause maybe?
