The CDC claims that nicotine is a "very addictive drug" that can be "as addictive as heroin or cocaine." Nicotine is typically eliminated from the body within 2 to 3 days, however, physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms may last for much longer depending on the individual. It isn't like that here in America! It's crazy to me that you cannot do what you want in your own home if someone else is coming there. I mean, most folks are considerate enough not to smoke while someone is doing work in the home, but to have it be a law!
And the driving thing...I wonder if we'll ever get that tough over here??
I can see the intent of the law restricting smoking in one's home while a worker is there. That is to protect the worker. If I were a non-smoking plumber, I would not like having to go to a smoker's home to do the work that pays my bills and feeds my family, and spend time breathing the toxic atmosphere; not to mention bringing that stench home with me on my clothes.
As for the painter smoking in his workplace, if the vehicle was parked I see no harm in that. I do believe the lawmakers were a tad too vague in that area.
Aren't the twists and turns of rights and privileges fun? ;-)

I think we WILL see a day where smoking in public altogether is banned. Here, they have already banned it in all public businesses, government or private. We have alot of people here now complaining about parks and any public place where there may be children, elderly, or sick people. They are considering passing a law saying no more in parks, etc. It's coming, sooner than we might think.
I'm with you Viv, I'm a non smoker now, so YAY for them! Wouldn't have said that a year ago, or even a month ago for that matter. :)
You cannot smoke in any buildings or anywhere that is considered a 'workplace'. You cannot smoke at bus stops. You cannot smoke outside a hospital - not anywhere in hospital grounds. You cannot smoke in a hire (rental) car. Most of my friends and relations do not smoke so their houses are non-smoking. I even have a couple of friends where you are not allowed to smoke in thier garden.
That together with the rising costs (nearly 6 for 20) is why I am stopping.
but the less places anyone can smoke the more chance newbies have of giving up,
