Smoking Addiction & Recovery Support Group
The CDC claims that nicotine is a "very addictive drug" that can be "as addictive as heroin or cocaine." Nicotine is typically eliminated from the body within 2 to 3 days, however, physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms may last for much longer depending on the individual. If you are trying to kick the habit, this community is dedicated to giving smokers the...
Keep a positive attitude......
Keep coming back here to help yourself and to get encouragement. Know that the first two weeks are hell week, so keep VERY busy!
Keep telling yourself that you are a non smoker now.
I also restarted my exercise routine this week, and yesterday was aerobics day. Put in 35 minutes and today I pump some iron.
I'm feeling very confident I can make it past the first 72 hours and get beyond the window of physical withdrawal. What I do notice and I think will be a bigger challenge is the psychological urge to smoke. For instance after eating breakfast this morning the first thought that came to mind is get a cup of coffee, get on the PC and check out a news site and DS while having my first smoke of the day. Doh! :-)
It's the ingrained routine that will take longer to dissolve.
Keep BUSY....drink tons of water.....and change up your routine.
MayberryDeb use to take straws and cut them up and smoke them like a cigarette (minus the tobacco and just sucking in good clean air...lol). She claims she even ashed them (silly gal).
Hang in there....you CAN do this!!!
Another thing that's helping is since I started Chantix last Wednesday I had a week to prepare myself mentally. I think that's a biggie.
As for the psychological aspect, I've been meditating daily for the better part of 17 months. That's a HUGE help for not dwelling on negative thoughts. Just notice them arise and let them go, just like during sitting meditation.
And then there's this support group. The icing on the cake! Support and sharing from people who have gone through or are going through a similar experience is invaluable!! It's a place for inspiration, motivation and possibilities! :-)
Plus 3/4 carton of Extra Cheddar Goldfish and about a dozen hard lemon candies. Oh, and 3 straws. :-)
Love the humor....that is soooo important ("3/4 box of extra chedder goldfish...a dozen lemon candies....and straws".....LOVE IT).
Now put on the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams and dance around. That should wear ya down and make you happy at the same time :P

Great song and as long as my willpower is stronger than my addiction I can exercise free will. Right now my willpower has the upper hand and I'm determined to keep it that way.
...but it's been 48 hours since my last puff!!!
