The CDC claims that nicotine is a "very addictive drug" that can be "as addictive as heroin or cocaine." Nicotine is typically eliminated from the body within 2 to 3 days, however, physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms may last for much longer depending on the individual. If you are trying to kick the habit, this community is dedicated to giving smokers the...
I want to quit but I just can't help
coldsummernights
I am just 19. Going 20 in 4 days. I've been smoking cannabis and tobacco in the past 6 years. It started during college. It might seem a little time for others but I think that's enough. I can't seem to stop smoking, in fact, I don't want to quit smoking but I am experiencing short breathings and I'm afraid I would get really sick since I am very unhealthy for I happen to live a unhealthy life. I want to change and the first time I'm planning is to refrain myself from smoking. Do you guys have any idea on how could I stop this addiction?
This means a lot to me. Thank you very much.

They always tell me....Just Stop! I can tell you this as far as weed goes, your gonna close a lot of doors as far as employment, some drug tests go back as far as 1 year! So there's that. And if your having short of breath, I think you should listen to your body, at least take some time off smoking altogether and plan to see a physician. I set a date before and kept snacks around to eat when urges came. Its not easy tho, Im still struggling.

Try the patch, it has worked for many of my friends. Give it a try.

Hi ColdSummer and welcome to the family of quitters. You are giving those lungs a double whammy. I used to do the same thing. Quitting is a process, it doesn't happen overnight. Like KZ said. Chose a date no more than a month away. Gather up a 'tool box' of the things that you will need. Tons of water, a book, some play dough for that hand habit, I cut straws in half and used them like a cig. All I got was good clean air'. Join us daily for Roll Call and when you DO quit, join the pledge. All are really helpful. Let us help you plan.

Thanks a lot guys. You do have a point and MayberryDebb sounds like cutting straw makes it fun. lol. I used to try quitting but all my friends are smoking and hanging out with them makes it impossible for me to stop. I can't believe how you guys can manage such. Did you guys fail quitting before? I hope I can do it but I think I'm going to give myself a week before actually quitting. I think I'm going to lower the counts day by day. What do you suggest? Quitting it completely right away or cutting off? Again, thank you again so much. Thanks KZ, Jazz and Mayberry :D

I say quit cold turkey because like me I tried one a day and then said "well one more wont hurt" which turned into a pack every two days. I had set New years as my date and was successful until April when I had one bad day and was back at it. So being forever as the goal, I know I gotta replace it with something that will be sustainable because the journey looks as if its gonna be years if not forever fighting. Do you have a birthday or holiday coming up?
coldsummernights
Hi KZ. Yep. My birthday is actually on the 30th of September. Few days from now. I can't say that I'm actually ready quitting because that'd be hard but if I wanted to, I really need to motivate myself. Quitting would be really awesome birthday gift I can give for myself especially that I'm going to be 20. (am I too young to be in here?) I need to start right towards my not-teen years. I just usually back out because it is kind of my stress reliever.

That would be the perfect time to stop! Smoke-free 20's! This weekend would be the last weekend, you can do it. Get it in your head now that Monday is the last day, even better, Sunday that way when your b-day rolls in you wont have any nicotine/smoke in your system on that special day...LIFE! Keep reminding yourself all day...promise me you will at least try?

Thank you so much KZ. This means a lot to me. And I promise to try my very best to stop this one. I know I'm stronger than this, I just need a little push. I owe it to you guys.
