Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
I just happened upon your post shortly after joining this group, and I want to thank you so much for including the link to the article in Health Care Asia. I couldn't believe it when I read it - I have used a BiPap machine for several months - very sporadically, because I have never been able to get used to the way it makes me feel. At first I feel relaxed and go to sleep - but then I wake up in a few hours with tremendous chest pressure and feeling like my head is going to explode. My BP goes up, also and all you hear is that cpap/bipap therapy is supposed to lower it. This article was just amazing - I never knew about the research they have been doing that shows that increasing O2 levels can decrease Co2 levels in your brain. Their studies showed that there are more cardiovascular events with cpap therapy than with using nothing. Unbelievable. I wanted to ask you if you have experienced any similar symptoms and if you are (still) using or have ever used a cpap machine & what your experience with it is. I honestly don't know what to do now - I think I'm going to try alternative methods, like no relaxing meds before bed; sleeping in a more upright position; whatever. I would be so grateful to hear back from you about your experience with this and your impressions of the articles and research. It truly blew my mind to find out about this and how drs and sleep clinics have kept this a secret. Thank you again for this really enlightening article, - and I really hope to hear back from you with your thoughts and experiences with this.
