My appointment last week at the TMG Pain Center went well but I came home disappointed. The process appears to be a long drawn out affair. It is called an "Intra Oral Appliance", it looks like a set of dentures that you wear on top of your teeth but they are hooked together, so it would be like having your jaw wired shut. What they do is slowly move your jaw outward by adjusting the "dentures" at intervals. The doctor is actually a dentist who specializes in that sort of thing. They do not deal with Insurance companies, so you are required to pay up front for every visit and submit a claim to your Ins. co. yourself. The doctor would not say how long of a process it would be or how many visits it would require, he said it varies with every patient. So he would not give me a "ball park" figure as to the cost either. I plan to check further with my Ins. Co. but if they won't cover it, I will not consider it, although it would be nice to throw out that C-Pap machine!
