Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.

Okay I've known for quite a while that I have sleep apnea. I remember one night i fell asleep on my aunt's couch and when i woke up i found my family standing over.
I asked them what's wrong and they all said that i stopped breathing in my sleep and they wanted to make sure I was all right. Lately its been getting worse.
One night i fell asleep and it seemed like i wasnt sleeping for long but when i was sleeping i noticed i had stopped breathing! Most of the time i dont notice but im laying there asleep and im thinking to myself holy crap i stopped breathing! i kept thinking to myself Breathe damn it!! Wake up and breathe but for some reason i couldnt open up my eyes or move i laid there motionless i began to freak out and panic(in my mind).
But after trying to wake me for quite some time my mom finally managed to wake me. i was so scared to fall back asleep.I'm afraid that one night Ima fall asleep and stop breathing for good.I constantly wonder now what if my mom didnt wake me? what if she didnt and i laid there motionless and unable to open my eyes, what would of happened? til this day i have no clue what really happened.
At nighttime when i go to bed i tend to get a stuffy nose and it makes it even harder to breathe. Not to mention Im trying to get over a cold i had. I told my doctor about this and she wanted me to do a sleep study and she was gonna help me set it up but never followed through. i have no medical insurance so i doubt I can afford treatment.
But I tried sleeping in different positions to help with my snoring and breathing but im most comfortable sleeping on my stomache. My snoring has gotten alot louder and of course im embarrassed at the fact i snore. I even tried a couple kinds of the breathe right breathing strips. I've tried the regular kind and the menthol kind but of course they dont like to stay on long and dont seem to work.
I'm just so frustrated!! I sleep for a good amount of hours but I constanly wake up feeling like i havent slept at all. Im so sick and tired of being exhausted!! I don't know what to do.
sorry this is so long..i had alot to write. I would appreciate some feedback and what not. thank you :)

UniqueInEveryWay, you need the sleep study and you need it as urgent as possible. I understand about insurance but this is your life you are talking about. If you have SA and do not do anything it can lead to heart attack, stroke, diabeties even possibly even cancer. CPAP is expensive but better than the alternative, possibly dying. It does sound like SA that you have but there are many sleep disorders and the sleep study will tell you what you have. There are also 2 types of sleep apnea, obstructive and central and depending on which one you have (if you have it) the treatments are slightly different. Try to do as much research as you can on SA and sleep studies as the more you know the better. Let us know before you go for the sleep study and we can give you some more tips, good luck and do something about it. I don't want to scare you more but I just came out of a meeting as I'm in Australia and someone told me two of their friends in there mid 20's died in there sleep for no apparent reason. She doesn't know I have Sleep Apnea at the moment they don't know why. I will be interesting when they find out.
