Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.

Okay I've been reading lots of the discussions about breathin machines, chin strapps, and medical supplies tappin the insurarnce companies...
I've been usin a breathin machine for couple of years now... almost anyway for sure...
I made my own chin strapp...out of denim, don't stretch so mouth stays shut... mostly, I blow rasberries in my sleep, still drool on my pillow..
Biggest problem I have is PAIN... can't sleep more than an hour or two, unless I have the proper angle which requires and adjustable bed...
I experimented with a adjustable bed... cheepy air bed that popped a valve and had to be returned..
But I found that with an ajustable bed I could get like three to four hours of deeeeep sleep and had less pain too...
Now I'm flat of my back and the pain is back, and I'm doing okay, but I know it could be better...
My machine is set at twenty pounds... it is owned by the county CMO.. along with my shower chair and stroller walker thingy mo giggy...
One of the new problems I'm having is a slighty sore throat when I wake up... and the next mornin I'm coughin up fleem which I wonder if that's from my years of smokin, I quit smokin like eight years ago...
All in All, I feel some improvement, and my therapist with the clinic is way happy about my improvements...
So do the best you can... I use mine when I napp durin the day, and at nite too... So I guess I'm sayin use your machine as much as you can...
I never thought I'd say it but my machine is makin a difference in how I feel, and think about myself...
BEWARE the medical supply places they tend to want to order new stuff more than we need it... I have the same nasal pillows I started with and the same hose... and my trusty old aircompressor (aka sleep machine) no leaks works great still...

do you have a humidifier with your machine that helps when we have such dry weather at this time of the year also even though you may have the same set up and parts do you htink you may want to update your amsks and tubing it get pretty rough looking and kepping it clean as best you can is ok but if you have insurance I would just check what may need to be replaced.

Denim is a great suggestion. The last time I tried to use mine it had a horrible smell and caused a sinus infection. I guess I need a new filter? I also sleep when I can. I ust to come on here and fill my time as something quiet to do while my hubby slept. Then I was accused of posting to just post. Getting past that I guess now I will have to find something else to do so that I don't step on folks feet. I recieved a letter a month ago saying that it was time to replace things. I haven't been able to use it enough to care. My brother has sleep apnea too and has said that if he doesn't use his he has a horrible headache. I haven't thought about using it while napping. You know gotta get it when you can. I tried not to nap but would stay up for days then.I would go to the doctor and let them check me out. My father woke up one day doing the same thing and found out he has problems with his esphagous.(?) It has been a few days are you any better?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
