Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
I am not a physician.
If your Grandfather has an AHI of 14.9 then he has sleep apnea that is considered in the mild form. Really, though, he is just on the borderline of being classified as having moderate sleep apnea as this classification begins when one has an AHI of 15.
If someone I cared about had an AHI of 14.9 and the physician didn't label this as sleep apnea, I would not make an appointment with this physician again.
Perhaps a second opinion is in order.
Please know that the current thinking is that the majority of adults with sleep apnea are undiagnosed.
Take care,

My thinking was like: there is no way that a person of 86 y. o with 15 episodes/hour does not benefit from cpap.
Doctors in my country are thick headed.
What symptoms caused your grandfather to have a sleep study done?
