Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
I know most of this stuff runs in my family, but we are not seriously overweight. I just want to feel like a human and not a zombie so I can have some energy.
CPAP will definitely help if you have SA. It took me a little while to get used to using my CPAP, but now I'm an old pro. Stick with it. You'll feel so much better.
Good luck dear.
Your brain says you have stopped breathing and wake up and start breathing again, each time you stop breathing you blood rushes from all parts of your body to your vital organs, your heart and brain as it knows you need oxygen and blood flow, you are basically in shock for long periods of time during the night and it puts so much stress on our bodies.
This is why you are getting that sick and dizzy feeling and tired.
On your second post all your illness's are interelated, the depression and anxiety is coming from the sleep apnea because when we sleep, we go through sleep cycles which are roughly 90 mins in length, the most imoortant stage of the sleep cycles is REM sleep which is our most restorative sleep cycle, our deepest sleep stage.
It is when we dream, when we release our daily stressors, when we heal, when we grow, if you are waking during that cycle or any of the cycles your body is not allowing itself to do all those thing you need.
Your anxiety is never getting time to release.
I was on anti depressants for years and nothing worked because the doctors want to cure the symptoms not the cause, in our case sleep apnea.
You don't have to be over weight to have sleep apnea, males or females, young or old, over weight or normal weighted people can have it.
We cant say it will definitely treat you but what do you have to lose. That's the way I looked at it and two years down the track I'm at the gym everyday and are bursting with energy and more importantly love life.
You do have to go into this with a positive attitude and we can help and support you, you also have to remember this is a treatment not a cure, you will be on it for ife but once you get used to it, it is just like an extenstion of your body. Let us know how you go after your appointment.
