Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
Just be honest. You are not the first person that hasn't followed recommendations.
If you are straight up with them they will be willing to work with you to figure out what the problem is then resolve it. Just make the commitment to go to the appointment and tell them you are struggling.
.
On another note, your ins. co. can bill you for the benefits they paid if you're not using it. Just a heads up.
I know you can do it sweetie. Just set your mind to it. Tell yourself he will know if I don't use it. That's what I did and it really helped me through the "getting used to it" phase. My usage was 100% with 10 hours per night average, and he was happily surprised.
Keep a pen and pad next to your bed and write down the total hours used every morning. Then you will know what he's going to see when he downloads the data from your chip, and you won't have to guess and worry. I'm up to 7012.
Wishing you well.
Anyway I'm going tomorrow so I could use any encouragement you can give.
Thanks so much for the support already given. It means a lot to me.
Be empathetic and realize how much time they spent trying to help you. That is probably the reason for the chilly reception.
As I always say, you are completely in charge of your behavior at all times so you own however you respond to them. I say, kill 'em with kindness. This usually thaws them out. If it doesn't, at least you didn't let them get to you and make you upset. You can walk out knowing you were the better person.
Unfortunately for your circumstances, Keeska is right on. Your insurance my have conditionally approved you for the machine as most insurances want a 90 day letter from the DME stating two items.
1) you have been compliant with the CPAP therapy
2) the CPAP therapy is helping you
Otherwise, the insurance company will usually cancel the previously approval for CPAP therapy.
The issue won't go away and it will definitely be easier for you to deal with sooner than later. Plus, I bet you will feel better knowing that you got this over with.
Best of Luck,
TheWino
Anyway I was told the first year was the hardest. After that it becomes a habit. I'm sure they must get frustrated that help is there but I must make the effort and I haven't.
So tonight I start again and my own machine will be here in 2 weeks.
There's nothing like a free do over. I bid you good luck!
And, if you have any questions that I can answer, ask away. I will help you out, point you in the right direction, or tell you that I honestly don't know the answer.
Be well Roses,
TheWino
It won't be that long before you're using it every night without a thought. And you're going to feel so much better for having enough O2 and getting restful sleep.
