Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
They did say I would probably need 2 masks as most people find the nasal pillow makes their nostrels sore to use every night..not sure if that is true or not. Some nights I just cant stand the mask on as I have little panic attacks....I can see I will really struggle next summer.
The masks are very difficult, I use a full face mask because I breathe through my mouth, my sister uses a nasal mask and loves it and others use nasal pillows. Let me know which direction you are thinking about for both and I can try and help, whichever way you go you need to get the 90 apneas an hour down to less than 5.
Finally the decision on the CPAP really comes down to whether you wants flexibility with your setting and whether you want to read and manage your data or whether you just want to set the machine and let it go.
I seem to be doing better with the mask now pehaps because the weather is getting cooler. I now manage about 7hrs per night. My Dr is very pleased with my results I have the apneas down to 2-2,5 a night.
I am keen to try the nasal pillows so I may buy a mask off Ebay as they are much cheaper.
People have commented how rested I now look & I'm no longer looking to have a nanna nap in the afternoon. So I'm starting to feel normal LOL!!
Cheers!
A good night's sleep is invaluable. It is so important to our well being, our life line, our health, our very temperment. Without the mask, when forgotten in the middle of the night, I scream, talk, yell, snore, bother my husband to death. I like him sleeping next to me. So, I use the mask.
