Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.
Just a couple of things to keep in mind-(1) it takes everyone a different length of time to adjust. It may well take you only a week or so but for some it can take up to a month to get used to wearing the mask every night, all night. I was lucky in that I was able to wear my mask all night the first night and from then on and within a week or two I was comfortable wearing it to bed. I was past ready to get some real sleep so that may have helped me in my adjustment.
Whatever will be the case with you just don't give up and don't skip a night without using your machine. You'll adjust sooner and easier. (2) The same goes for how soon you will start to feel better. It took me close to a month to start to feel rested and start to live like someone who sleeps like we're meant to. We all start with a sleep deficit that has to be "paid back" before we feel better. Again, don't think it's not working and give up on the use. It will work!
I tell you these things not to squelch your excitement about having the CPAP. I'm glad your excited...you SHOULD be excited, I just don't want you to be disappointed if these first few nights are what you expect them to be.
CPAP was one of the best things to happen for me, and I know it will be for you too!
be patient and have positive thoughts
