Afraid it might be too late

My husband has a circular with rugged edges spot on his neck he has had for some time now. On Sunday he saw where a famous pro baseball player died from skin cancer. I've been after him for a long time to go to the doctor but he is always saying he doesn't go to doctors and that it isn't skin cancer. Whether it is or isn't, neither of us know but to me it doesn't look good. It has grown to about the size of a nickel. We are going on vacation on Saturday for 9 days but I have scheduled a doctor's appt for the 30th, the day after we return home. I am so scared that I am going to lose him. From what I have seen on line, it looks like bad melanoma. I guess I shouldn't look on web since all it does is scare me. Any advice on how to handle and go about this. I have a firm faith and belief in God and thankfully husband did finally ok going to doctor. I know he will do what the doctor tells him. I am just so scared.

I can so understand, bless you for pressing your husband to go to dr and him agreeing to go. If it is there are many options, treatments. My cousin had it two years ago, was in remission, is going thru again, however the doctors watched closing which is how they caught again. MD Anderson in Houston is excellent place to go if need be.
I have had skin cancer 8 x on my face just had a second reconstruction surgery yesterday. I have been lucky so far and not be melanoma , but have had squamous .

I don't know much about melanoma, but keep encouraging him to go. Skin cancer is no joke, as you know. At least skin cancer is usually slow growing, so I hope you can take some splice in that. Good luck to you. Please let us know the results of doctor's visit/biopsy.

I had a "ugly duckling" mole on my back that I thought was pretty scary. It was the size of a dime and had 3 colors to it. It turned out to be a compound mole. Praying your husband has good news and its nothing.

I absolutely understand how stressful seeing something nasty on your significant other can cause huge anxiety. Melanoma can be tricky. A mole that looks fairly benign can turn out to be a nasty melanoma and a really nasty looking mole can turn out to be nothing or a dysplastic mole. While my melanoma was Stage 1A...it really didn't look like much at all...it looked like a freckle with just a touch of a darker color. I only went and had it removed because my sister and girlfriend were bugging me. I absolutely thought there was nothing wrong. The best thing you can do is get something concerning looked at, get yearly skin exams, and stay off the internet!

You did the right thing by making the appointment for him and I sincerely hope it is nothing. Please keep us updated...it's stressful waiting for results but you've taken the most important first step.
