Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I am embarrased about it too, but there isn't much I can do. Fortunately, I work in an office that is cool, so it really isn't a problem there. So I just kind of live with it. Not much help for you I'm afraid.
This is kind of strange, but at work I run a fan that blows on my legs and feet. If they are cool, the rest of me feels much better. Also try and stick with cotton during the summer so my clothes are breathing.
We are having a hot spell this week and higher than average humidity. I'm coping by bringing my own lunch and not going outside any more than absolutely necessary.
I know exactly how you feel and am actually so glad to hear your story! I have always been somewhat of a sweaty kid/adult but I can almost remember to the day (I was at a friend's wedding) when I began to sweat out of control and embarassingly. I had to ask to go to a friend's hotel room and use their hair dryer because my hair was soaked and I didn't understand why I was sweating so much when no one else was. Little did I know that was the beginning of many more sweaty days.
I sweat so much that I often go through 2 shirts in a day. Often by the middle of the day my hair looks as if I just stepped out of the shower and this is in the air conditioning. I definitely seem to sweat more when my illnesses are "flaired up" and I have not been able to figure out the source of the sweating but seem to think that it has something to do with hormones. Along with Sjogren's, I have Addison's Disease, RA and Hypothyroidism so it's kind of a toss up as to what causes what but SOMETHING is causing severe sweating and you are right... IT IS EMBARASSING no matter how you look at it.
Unfortunately, I'm with dadsgirl1... I haven't found much that helps except very very cold air and staying away from stressful situations (that always makes me sweat more) . I'm sending cold air your way!!! :)
Thank you for your kind words and stories. Its really nice to hear that I'm not the only one going through this even though its not a nice subject to talk about hahaha. I'm very grateful for the cold air wishes. If anyone ever has any other suggestions on how to beat the sweat I'm always happy to hear from you. Hope everyone is doing well.
