Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
Wondering if anyone has this visual problem? One doc called it ocular migraine. It happens without warning and it looks like a crystal worm wriggling across my field of vision. It's kind of like looking through bits of broken glass. One source described it as a neurological event in the brain, not an eye problem. I've had SJS for several years and continue to be amazed by the new issues in my body.
I have had what you mentioned for 3 years(SJS for 11 years) Used to be just 2 to 3 times a year; now it is once a week. It was told to me that it is unusual to have it occur on both sides(not at same time) however I do get it in either eye. Mine last about 20 min. I first described it to my Nero as a glimmer in a zig zag line(like sunlight flickers on the water).
I have no pain before or after and occasionally I have some nausea after.My understanding is ;it has to do with limited blood flow to the retina; blood vessel involvement. I haven't had anyone tell me to do anything for it.
With SJS the one thing you can count on is change;get what you mean about issues.
I have been told by my Opthomologist that it is Migraine Aura without the headache.
Some people have it really bad and are noted as having "Alice In Wonderland Syndrome". I sometimes see stars also. If you do a search on Miggraine Aura you will find lots of info and even some artwork of what people have experienced.
Good luck. It is somewhat scary when it first happens. I still don't like it but I just wait it out now.
