Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I don't use one because it bothers my husband, but several Sjogie friends use a cool mist humidifier, made for a baby's room.
I do have a person humidifier that I use when I fly. It came from Sharper Image, although I bought it at one of their auctions since it was pricier than I wanted to pay. I love it. Also filters the air so it smells like it had just rained moments before. In our dry California summers, I have been known to run it in my dental treatment room to improve my environment.
Have a nice day.
Forced hot air furnaces you MUST use one or suffer. I have baseboard heat and gas fired fireplace. I like 65% to 70% humidity at night for sleeping.
The mist units can cause mold and issues with windows collecting water. I turn the bedroom off during the days. The other runs as needed. Rainy days it barely runs.
My skin is like silk. :-)
Honeywell Quiet Care 17005 Air Purifier - pricey , but I'm worth it.
I use the crane cool mist humidifier. it is a small unit that can take regular Tap water although it will last longer if you use distilled. No matter what kind you get remember that it needs to be cleaned frequently. I rinse mine out daily and leave it as exposed to air as possible to dry. Any moist environment promotes the growth of bacterias, virus, molds and mildews. Although filters give a sense of security it takes a very specialized filter that has to be replaced frequently to prevent contamination. When I travel I use the personalized humidifier by Ladyjiv. I have found the humidifiers to help with sinus issues as well as my dry eyes and mouth. Merry Christmas!
