Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I find it almost impossible to know what is normal for one of my 4 DX's and when I should go to the ER, and if you even bother to call the DR on call, they just tell you to go to the ER anyway to avoid a law suit.
You really can't win either way!
Given that you just had surgery plus an Auto-Immune Disorder and were experiencing a high pain lever, I would have gone to the ER also. Auto-Immune Disorders are tricky and their symptoms vary and change and move around and affect various systems in the body.
I know you may have been embarassed, but I'd rather be safe than sorry...I hope you are feeling better and do not hesitate to use an ER if you need one-sometimes with Chronic Disease, we have no choice but to get checked out regardless of the outcome.
Best, LuLu
Hope you are feeling better today.
but I don't eat like I should. I can't force myself most of the time. and I can't sleep at night. bcause I'm too thirsty. and hyper. I keep thinking about drinking stuff and if I can't have it I'll go nuts. and it's not my mouth I have to quench. It's my throat. I don't know what to do. I think about drinking or I am drinking almost 24/7. I'm losing a lot of weight. I'm weak. My doctor knows already. But what to do about it? I did get some extra sleep this AM between 7 and 9:45. That was importart. I finally had to get up due to med schedule as I am also bipolar. But I think I may have to make some lifestyle changes. I may have to let someone else have charge of one of my cats. and sleep separate for my hubby(the added body temp keeps me awake) but we'll see. My cats start climbing on me at 2am and when I close the bedroom door one of them will thump his head again the door and scream until he throws up.
Glad you are starting to feel better...Just wondering, how are you managing your dry throat other than with water? There are some saliva substitutes that last for several hours that do coat the mouth and throat, but I am wondering if you need to schedule a check up and maybe even see if you need an RX saliva substitute like Eovxac?
Too much fluid could be throwing off your electrolyte balance as well...maybe think about a check up?
Hope you feel better,
LuLu
I am guessing with such a dry throat eating must be so hard...choking must be an issue at times.
I hope you and your Dr work out a good treatment plan
