Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.

I caught a nasty bug that is making it difficult to breathe deeply. I've had this for 2 months now and it just isn't going away. I saw the rheumatologist, internist, pulmonary specialist and they all say I just have to wait for it to pass. I think the next one to see is an ENT-(ears, nose throat specialist). It saps all my energy. I think being in pain all the time is exhausting me. I am so frustrated because I can't exercise and that's what I need so my hands and feet don't hurt. We tried a course of Prednisone which helped for a minute but now I feel the same as I did a month ago. They say it has nothing to do with my Sjogren's but I'm wondering if my immune system is too messed up to kick this virus out. Anyone else have this thing?

I had something similar when I was having a flare with my throat/chest area feeling that way. I felt restricted. The best thing that I have found to help keep my symptoms at bay has been plaquinil. It takes a few months to kick in but it helps so much. It helps with joint pain too. Have they done a chest xray just to be safe? Its a horrible feeling and I hope u get better soon!

I've been on Plaquinil for the past 3 years. It helps a great deal, but doesn't seem to help with the chest tightness. It's hard to take a deep breath. Kind of feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest. Amazing how much you miss something when it's gone.

Reply 3, thanks, nice to know I'm not the only one that has this. How long does your chest tightness last?

Dear Sumopanda, I have had this nasty sinus/cold/chest thing for one month and am only now starting to feel better. I too need to exercise to keep my pain down but the residual exhaustion and coughing from this bug has really beaten me down. Today is actually the first day where I've had a little energy and went for a short walk. When I came back, my legs felt weak! My husband has this bug too and is having trouble shaking it. Whatever it is, it is nasty, but will eventually calm down for you, I hope.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
