Have you by any chance been taking Levaquin (an antibiotic)? Although everyone I know has had success with this drug, it gave me SEVERE bursitis. I got rid of it by making a couple visits to an acupuncturist. When it was at its worst, I couldn't even lift a coffee cup without pain.

Not taking any antibiotics. Brushing my hair and sometimes even eating is a trip--learning to use my left hand more (even though its sprained with some chipped bones). This is my second bout of severe bursitis--first time cortisone shots helped, but I think it's too soon to get more shots. Just wonder if anyone else has linked this with sjogren's.

When ever you have an autoimmune disease it is going to make any inflammatory event over the top. The best thing you can do is try to avoid any kind of injury that will cause inflammation and then once you do find yourself in the midst of an event you really must treat it very aggressively. At the first signs you have to get on board with NSADS often two or more types, start alternating cold and hot treatments and by all means seek out a medical professional if it effecting your quality of life. While we all try to stay clear of prednisone as much as possible a quick round can end these sudden inflammation events.

I have Sjogrens and I got a bad case of bursitis in my leg/side in November. I went to my rheumatologist and she told me that people with Sjogrens are prone to bursitis. She said that the disease inflames the bursa sacks and it is quite common. She gave me a steroid injection into the most painful area and I felt much better within a day or two. Hope this helps.

I've had some bursitis in my knees. My rheumy gave me an injection in each knee of cortisone which helped alot. When I feel it starting to flare up I start taking the anti inflamatory's again and they seem to help. I think losing weight would help too, but that's a whole other issue.

RA causes it which we get from SjS so , yes. I've had it bad several times. I am on Ibu asap.
I recently had my neck flare , awful! RA is bad then to have ot deal with offshoots from it makes life a joy. -not-

Grateful to all for your replies. Sorry for others who are also suffering from bursitis-so painful-but it helps to hear from you and know I'm not crazy. What NSAIDS work for others? I've been using aleve.

You may need a prescription nsaid. I have been on Voltaren for inflamation of my ribs. It has really helped but the drawback is it is hard on your stomach. I have reflux so I try not to take it too often. Good luck!

I have a prescription for a voltaren gel but I'm not sure it's very effective. Unfortunately, prednisone remains the best relief.

Hi, I have bursitis off & on in my hips. I also am very prone to tendinitis. I heard somewhere that tendinitis is common in people with Sjogrens.

I use ice packs and sometimes heat. I also take Celebrex 200 mg daily.

Yes. I just found out that what I have been calling back pain is actually originating from a very large inflamed bursa in my upper buttocks. Getting a shot in it today. Hope it relieves the pain. I've been undergoing all sorts of treatments for almost a year, and finally, the pain doctor listened to me.

I have not had bursitis but get plenty of tendonitis and because sjs is a connective infammatory tissue disease, it can and does affect any area of the body

So, in my opinion it definitely can be caused by sjs.

"Sjgren's syndrome occurs in two basic forms: primary Sjgren's syndrome -- the disease by itself and not associated with any other illness; and secondary Sjgren's syndrome -- disease that develops in the presence of another autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or vasculitis."

Hope that clears it up some, I have secondary. :-)
