Sjogren's Syndrome Support Group
Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It also associated with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, and it is rheumatoid factor positive in 90 percent of cases.
I am very sun sensitive. When I go to the beach or the pool, I need to sit under an umbrella and wear a hat. I feel sick in the heat and I often get rashes on my upper arms. Another thing that occurs is I get pins and needles all over my body that lasts for days.
I also have the chest pain that was mentioned. I was admitted to the hospital in March and all cardiac issues were eliminated. The cardiologist believes that the pain is linked to the autoimmune stuff. I went to a GI and I am getting an endoscopy next week. I liked the GI doctor very much but he also had this arrogant doctor to check me too. I told him I had Sjogrens and he said "Oh, that's a very benign disease"....I wanted to smack him.
