Exercise?

Hello All,
My symptoms are mild. My biggest complaints are joint stiffness (relieved by stretches) and LACK OF ENERGY. My doc says to eat well, get lots of sleep and excercise. How am I supposed to exercise when I don't have energy?? Just curious, what do you guys do about exercise?

My pain nurse says exercise is critical. I stiffen op and feel worse if I sit down for a long time. I still work as a nurse full time so get plenty of exercise there. I recently bought "Just Dance" for the wii and find that helps, but only play it on my days off just to keep me moving. Have a pain free day all xxx

I really have to push myself to head out the door to walk the dog and when I get home I drag myself up the stairs and want to lay down. I am taking naps these days. Luckily I am retired and can do so. I have added water aerobics to my regimen and love the soothing water and the socializing. Most of us there have some sort of physical problem, which is why we are doing water exercise. If you are 65 you may be able to get medicare to pay for your membership at the Y! Check it out to see if it would work for you. The program is called Silver Sneakers. Know that we are there with you and we care!

Lindoreen, I feel exactly like you after I go for a walk--need to take an immediate nap!

I feel so discouraged! I'm in my mid-forties and I don't know HOW I will be able to work until retirement age (which for me, may be 70). I guess I'll be a bag lady...

I do understand the need for a nap but found that as I kept at it that it changed. If I am flaring I cut out usual daily duties and rest more but still walk as best as I can anyway. My flares seem milder when I do this. I walk after dinner as it helps me sleep far better. I try to add in two times a week at gym on tread mill some light weights or swim. I was doing well with it until I got off course and now have to build back up again. It really does help most all of my symptoms. Also Rumy says it is not an option and is critical to a better healthier life for me. Any autoimune condition progresses slower when a person excercises..it lessens inflamation and inflamation causes damage.
