Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
I don't know a lot about sports, help please!
My daughter in 3rd grade played basketball for the first time this year. Her coach was always cancelling practice and since this is the first year her school had a sports program, no one except for one girl knew how to play bball in the first game. Needless to say, they got creamed. Except for the one girl who played before, the others just stood around not knowing what to do until half time, they finally figured out to run after the ball. They didn't win a single game and the coach never called extra practice. I am thinking of asking the PE teachers there, do they not even TEACH a simple game such as basketball there at the school? Should kids know how to play basketball by 3rd grade?
For soccer, she got a coach who was good at soccer, but not so great at coaching and no one on her team was a great player. They tied one game and lost all the others. At least they knew how to play soccer.
Now for softball, she has the same coach she did for basketball. He was late starting practice for the season, cancelled the first practice bc of rain (couldn't he have had them in the gym practicing running or something?). Tomorrow will be the second practice and now says their first game is Saturday. I already see a bad season. Is it rude or wrong to ask for my registration money back and give my complaint? Will it blackball me at the school and sports program? I can handle that, but I just don't want my daughter to suffer any consequences at school... will she?

Are there any community driven sports programs run outside of the school that she could participate in? Is there a neighboring town that has a community program that she could attend?
I don't have great advice on whether or not filing a complaint or asking for a refund would have negative affects on your daughter, but this is impacting her and the other children. At this age, they should be learning the sport and how to play on a team.

It is a new program to the school at a competitve angel, that will take some time to work out those kinks.
Today they lost their first game by a large margin. but they seemed to have had so much fun and I'm thankful. But...
all they have done so far in practice is hit the ball and run to first base so guess what? When the second hitter hit the ball, the first one didn't even know to run to second base! And that's what I thought would happen since they didn't even practice a real game. Just like they never had a scrimmage in basketball, same stupid coach!

My son's teams usually get creamed too, but he seems to be enjoying it. Personally I couldn't care less if they win.
I also had my son watch videos from the library on the sports he was taking. This seemed to help him. There were also vids on how to coach the sports. You could watch those and give some pointers.
