Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
My son and I always had other issues that prevented us from getting out and meeting people, but the times we were successful were because I/we made a plan and tried again (and again, almost sometimes ad infinitum) when something came up and our plan had to change.
I remember you said you work from home so you're with him all the time. Could you meet other families with kids his age by putting him in daycare one day a week? Would you be able to meet some of the other parents then?
Don't give up on trying church. I tried that with my son. Once I chose one to try, stuff that had never come up before started coming up every Sunday. It was almost hilarious except that I had such good intentions. It was probably 2 months before we persevered enough and finally went. But, when we finally went we met kind, understanding people, some of whom also had kids.
Also, I think for kids this age my local library has a parent child story hour. Maybe yours does too?
Do you have a local, accessible zoo, children's museum, or community center?? Those places might have activities for kids and/or their parents.
It can be hard to connect these days, and when kids are this age. Everyone is so busy. But, hang in there it can be done. Planning and perseverance are what helped me.
Also, of course, this group is open 24/7, but there's a benefit to meeting local people in person.
I hope you and your son will find the connections you need soon.
Blessings and peace.
