Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
Good Morning,
My name is Marcella. I am a single mother to a 2-year-old girl. I have been divorced from her dad since she was 5-months-old. I am a full-time high school academic advisor, and a full-time Masters degree student at Capella University. It is not easy trying to juggle everything, but it is worth it. My daughter is happy, and has a wonderful support system. I live 8 hours away from my immediate family, but they are willing to travel just to help me out. I am pretty sure the grace of God has gotten me though all of this, but I am definitely a much stronger person. When my ex-husband showed me the type of person that he really was...I believed him. Women don't stay in something that is only going to hold you back from reaching your maximum potential in life. Single Parenting isn't for the weak or lazy..haha. We have to stick together and support each other through this journey. Our babies need us, and we need them! I look forward to chatting with people in this support group.

I am a new member and also a Capella student. I am a single mother as well, but my boys are 18 and 15. Good job leaving your ex early on. I had planned to leave when the kids were little, but I kept hoping he would change. I left when my oldest was 14 and I have never been happier. As they get older, life gets busier so be prepared. I thought when they were toddlers it was hard, but each stage of their lives brings on a different challenge which I wouldn't change for the world.
