Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
I wouldn't recommend spanking, but that is just my opinion.
THANKS AGAIN.
In some ways, I imagine you'll need an assortment of tactics/strategies on which to rely.
I have spanked the oldest (perhaps a total of two times) several years ago, but I've not done it since then. I became determined at that time to find alternate strategies to deal with unacceptable behaviour.
Check your local library or bookstore for that book. I'm sure there are others out there as well.
I know there are differences between you and I and the time our kids spend with us, but at least in my case, I'm chosen not to get sucked into playing only the fun dad. I believe kids need a regimen in their lives. They need to know their boundaries. Make the investment early in their lives and you're more likely to reap the rewards later on.
Oh, on occasion, I've been called the "meanest dad in the world". Such statements sting, especially the first few times. However, I know all is okay, when the kids still, at some point in the night crawl into bed to cuddle with dad, or are all kisses and hugs in the morning. That helps me to be determined to teach them manners and appropriate behaviour. I'm pretty sure the stbx is doing the same. So the kids are not benefiting from a game that some parents might play to win favour with their children.
Just some of my thoughts.
