Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.
I am a single Mom with a 7 year old son. His father and I broke up almost 2 years ago. After breaking up we still lived under the same roof for almost a year. It has now been a year since he moved out of the home we once shared. He visits his son twice a week for 2 hrs during the weekdays (the visit takes place in my home with me present). He also picks up his son on Saturday afternoons for about 5 hours.
I have been dating someone for some time now but it has become increasingly difficult because I feel I dont have much time for myself or to devote to spending time with my partner. I technically have family support from my mother who can watch my son if I want to go out. The problem is she is constantly saying I go out too much and that I need to stop. Its come to the point where I dont want to ask her to watch him if I am going out which frustrates me.
I am my sons primary caretaker and I also work full time . I am the one who takes him to school on public transportation about an hour away from my home. I pick him up from the sitter bring him home, help him with his hw, cook, clean and take care of his every need on my own. I have also been emotionally drained by trying to have a decent co-parenting relationship with his father which hasnt been easy.
Am I wrong for wanting time for myself? I would ask my mom to watch my son probably twice a month. I dont think this makes me bad parent as she has suggested. Am I not entitled to any sort of social or dating life because I am a single parent?

I don't know if this will work with you and your sons father but if it does then you will have time to yourself and to go out.
