Single Parenting Support Group
Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.

Hello everyone,
I am new to this group and I wanted to say hi and maybe get a little advice. My baby's dad hasn't really been around since he was born, but he would always call or text to make sure we were ok. As of 8 weeks ago I haven't heard anything from him. I have practically been a single parent from the very beginning but now I feel really alone.
I went to see a lawyer today to discuss my options and she said I have a good chance of getting his rights taken away. I don't think he will give up that easy so I am trying to get a plan B in place incase he wants visitaion and all that. His name isn't on the birth certificate (a decision we made together) so that complicates things just a little bit because now we have to get him to sign papers saying he is the father.
Has anyone else gone through something like this and/or have any advice?

Keep the child to yourself, you are there for him, take full responsibility. You can declare someone else was your child and he has to order a DNA to prove it. If he goes that road, you still get the custody since there would be no reason to be taken away. I think he found someone else and was never interested in being a good parent. The child support is not worth putting your child through visitations and sharing households if he doesn't want to pay. Be happy he is not on a birth certificate, forget about him and find your baby a good father.

I wouldn't mind him coming around and visiting or whatever I just don't want him to try and take him from me. His mom made threats to me and the baby when I was pregnant and I just don't want my son anywhere around her, and I know if my ex fiance takes my son that is one of the first places he will take him.

Im with Queendy, you could consider it a blessing that you haven't heard from him and when he really tries to contact you, if ever, just be really really hard to find. Impossible maybe. That will let you know for certain just how much he'd be willing to see baby. Also a blessing he's no on the birth certificate. You can pick up and move anywhere and start new life. He's a skeleton that could possibly stay in the closet!

My lawyer sent him some papers to see if he will sign his rights away because I don't want him coming back later wanting visitation after he just abandoned us. I guess we will see how that goes.

I wish you all the best. You are young and have alot of living to do with that little sweetie of yours. It's not easy dealing with even the most doscile ex, so that will be great if he signs!
