Single Dads Support Group
This community is dedicated to fathers who are going through the parenting process alone or without the support of a spouse. Single parenthood is often opted for by the parent (as in divorce, adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, or extramarital pregnancy), or an unforeseeable occurrence (as in the death of one parent or abandonment by one parent).
Unsure what you're looking for in terms of support but when you take care of yourself first, then the child, then don't worry about the mother or anyone else.
Raise the child like you would have wanted to be raised. You cannot make any mistakes as long as you keep the love, health and well being in place for yourself and the child.
It is a scary thing raising a child by yourself. Seek assistance from; trusted family and friends, etc. A solid father doing what's best for his child is often times an oxymoron but we're becoming the norm. When you put yourself, the child and the love for the child first, everything will come to you. It really is only what children want and need anyhow is a loving parent. Best thing you can do is be patient always and never, ever take the frustrations for the mom being away towards the child. There are too many instances when men would have wished the mother fell off the face of the planet only to rear her ugly head when she felt like it. Depending on how long the mother is to be incarcerated should put some longer term plans together for if/when she gets out in terms of supervised visitation, etc. Additionally, button things up in court so that you're set for FULL custody given the situation. Last thing you want is a difficult custody battle with either her when she gets released or her family who says you're not suited to raise a child as a single man. Last, if you're seeing someone, don't force them on the child. If it's meant to be it'll work out too.
Time will sort everything out for you. Good luck.
