This community is dedicated to fathers who are going through the parenting process alone or without the support of a spouse. Single parenthood is often opted for by the parent (as in divorce, adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, or extramarital pregnancy), or an unforeseeable occurrence (as in the death of one parent or abandonment by one parent).
Last year, when the family was still together, we had a birthday party at McDonalds for my daughter with all of her daycare friends. Ever since then she has asked for another one there the next year.
Well, this year her mother has left. She emailed me the other day saying she doesn't want to do the McDonalds thing and just do family things.
I am afraid my daughter will be heartbroken if we don't do it.
Do I dare just do it myself? Or will my stbx be put out? Or is that not my problem since she already stated she wasn't doing it?

Why not do the party regardless of what your STBX wants? She doesn't have to be there, & just because she doesn't want to do it doesn't mean you can't do it without her.

I have to talk to my daughter and see how she feels. I may have other equally fun plans.
To make it up to her a few weeks after I may plan a play-date for her at the McDonalds playland with her best friend.
