Single Dads Support Group
This community is dedicated to fathers who are going through the parenting process alone or without the support of a spouse. Single parenthood is often opted for by the parent (as in divorce, adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood, or extramarital pregnancy), or an unforeseeable occurrence (as in the death of one parent or abandonment by one parent).
I JUST WONDER IF, AS THEY GET OLDER, DO VIDEO GAMES GET TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT. I LOVED THEM GROWING UP, AND NOW MY SON SEEMS TO LOVE TO PLAY THEM. I WAS CURIOUS IF ANYONE HAS EXPERIENCED NEGATIVE EFFECTS WHEN IT CAME TO THEIR CHILDREN PLAYING VIDEO GAMES AS THEY GROW AND GET OLDER.
Hey there..little known fact about yours truly is that at one point in college, I was a psychology major and had planned to make it my life..it didn't happen that way, but I was close. As a research project, I did a study on this very thing.
The issue with video games is that they are fast paced and hold the attention because they are changing, always moving. It's hard for kids to transition that to a school setting where things don't move at that pace and the kids find themselves bored without something to hold their attention.
The same is true for TV which is why the time for both is recommended to be limited.
This isn't saying that it's all bad, but like all things, moderation is the key..but it's the attention issue that is the root of the beahvior problems as the kids move on to school.

I got him away from the normal video games, I bought a Wii system and only use the one sports game that came with it. It is loads of fun for the both of us. Good quality time.
