Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.

I think it would be awesome to start a support group for parents, teachers, relatives - really anyone needing support and sharing of ideas for those of us trying to help the shy children in our lives. Let this be a haven for comparing notes and supporting eachother. I am the mother of 2 shy kids and would love to connect with others in the same situation.

I was a shy child too. You have to encourage their confidence. Whatever they are good at... You have to set the example of not being afraid in social situations. You need to prep them before they are on the spot. Things to talk about.... And you need to get them in group activities. I was so shy, I missed out on a lot as a child. I watch my niece, who was at first really shy like me... I encourage her to tell jokes, laugh, dance and sing. Her personality is really developing. She's 6 now. She still has some shyness, but once she feels comfortable she is so joyful. I know it is because I understand firsthand what it is like and I know that I can help. Good luck :)

i've always been very shy. I remember feeling the most grateful to people who made me feel like it was okay to be shy, but it was also okay to talk if i felt comfortable. being forced to talk or asked why i wasn't talking made me feel like a weakling and a failure. i try to take the same approach with my kids.

that would be great, I was shy at school never raised my hand and if I was called on said I didn't know...even if I did! I wanted to make sure my kids wouldn't be shy, my one daughter is what I call normal shy and my other daughter I over did it maybe lol! my son is pretty easy going no problem talking! I would kinda trick them as kids so they didn't know I was a big chicken! I'ed have them ask for things at the store, I'ed be like go ask them where such and such is while I get this (of course I would watch them so they wouldn't be totatly alone) and take dancing classes. I failed a class because I was shy in the 11th grade, the teacher told me that just because your shy doesn't mean you get a free ride...I reward those who are smart and sometimes don't get credit because teachers give people like you extra help. I like was ok...

I am not a mother but an Auntie. I have two wonderful nieces. One is turned like her Dad and Mom- Never seen a stanger. Unfortuntly one is me over again. I encourage to be herself. Then we talk about who she is-her likes and dislikes. I am amazed at the things that are going aroundd in her brain. She is ten now and boys are entering her world. That has added a new shyness to her world. I am also making an effort to over my shyness. Hoping to lead be example. When ever she is around I make the effort to talk to people. It is hard lots of times but when I see her her going to someone much like she saw me do. I know it is worth it
