Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.
I stayed to myself in school because I knew I would be teased for not being able to be like all the other kids. My clothes were made by my grandma...big no no, cause everyone thoughtyou had to wear levi's or jordache etc. Nike shoes were the thing, I couldn't afford nikes, mine came from the dollar store! And I couldn't explain why I couldn't go to shcool functions and participate in school activities without being teased. I couldn't go to birthday parties, pj parties or have kids over, so I just stayed to myself ,it was saffer than trying to explain and then get teased. But it would have been embarrassing to have kids over and I knew that too cause there was nothing to do at my house. I didn't have a tv like other kids or a radio or atari ect. I was a loner except for my dear animals who ALWAYS understood :) So in a way , yes I guess I was shamed into shyness, not exactly like you. Only one of my parents called me names and had nothing to do with me.
Oh sure, that's all connected with the abuse. Mine was subtler, but the message you got from your family was pretty much the same as mine. I have a small physical challenge and my treatment was that I was "abnormal," and "a problem." So sure, I know exactly how shyness can grow out of that. When I was teased at school my parents attitude was "What else can you expect?" A very negative and defeatest attitude. It's made me very shy in certain situations, wondering whether I'd be accepted.
