Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.
When I tell other people I am shy, they respond with "what? you? no you aren't!" But they don't know how I feel inside. Insecure. Very insecure. Perhaps they don't see my shy self because they see me when I am in a position of power, like say at work.. or if I am with people I am comfortable around. I rise to the occasion when I must, but only when I must. When alone, I am intimidated by mostly everyone. I cannot look strangers, or even familiar faces, in the eye. When challenged with friendly (or unfriendly) eye contact, I cannot meet this challenge. I know it gives off a different impression than what I would like to convey. But for some reason, I just can't bring myself to look or even smile (without adequate incentive) at people. I know that people think confidence is sexy and persuasive.. but I can't even fake it! I just don't know how to shake my insecurity. I crave compliments from others, but despite the many that I do receive, I only ruminate over the criticisms. How does one become confident? Fake it til you make it? Tried it... its not working...
