Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.

Hi, I have a bit of social anxiety.. I ca be shy, but often not, but sometimes I do feel terrified (even if I'm being outgoing). I would really appreciate any input on this, I'm new to the bar scene, I grew up very religious (I'm in my mid-20s). This might sound petty, or like I'm being overly sensitive, I'm not sure, but it really made me feel bad and makes me kind of not want to go out again. I don't know.. I'm back at home right now and was out with an old friend at a very small bar in town where a ton of people from our grade (which I left in middle school for another school) congregate. It was kind of nostalgiac for me, and I was overall having a good time after a couple hours chilling with a couple guys. Another guy came in, who I had known since kindergarten and sort of been friends/acquaintances with in part of childhood. He ended up getting the seat of one of the guys I was talking to and having a convo wih one of the other guys. I tried to still be a part of it, but they weren't really including me. I tried talking to this guy a couple times, and he was friendly. Apparently he had said hi and I hadn't heard it. I don't know if I was being kind of stand-off-isha t first or just in my own world cause I wasn't sure what to do. Anyways, once when I was talking with him, it was kind of hard to hear him cause was 2-3 seats away, and there was a seat open next to him, so I went to sit next to him. Unfortunately for me, I was pretty dizzy standing up, kind of drunk, and there were a lot of people to plow through as it was more crowded than I realized. I think I did kind of rudely too, since I was dizzy, lol. Anyyways, as soon as I did get there, he immediately said, I'm actually gonna go to the bathroom. So I went back to my seat and was kind of loudly, to the others like, "Wow, what was that? That was like so rude." And most of them ignored me. When the guy came back from the bathroom he actually came over and stood by the friends I was standing with. I didn't look at him, but he didn't try to resume the conversation or anything, and very soon asked one of the other guys if they wanted to go somewhere else. My friend and I went outside for a breather, came back, and this guy had taken my seat. My friend and I were standing there, with another of our guy buddies, and I said to them (this guy +the guys I had been having a good time with for a while) 'yo, you guys took our seats!' (playfully). They were like, "You left!" We were like, we just went outside, but they pretty much didn't care, so we were just standing there (it was full up). My friend was fine, cuz she was standing with the guy who had invited her. I left at that point, feeling kind of shitty about myself. I don't know if I'm overreacting, if I made a social faux pas - like I came across as kind of stumbling, rudely throwing myself at this guy and then loudly complaining to his buddies, who were also my buddies though at that point, or what to make of it all exactly. Sorry for the long story, like I say any input would be much appreciated. I feel like I can just be a naively friendly person, and particularly in some towns/etc., people respond with snoodiness. If that's the main issue here, that's just sad. Why can't people just be nice?

Well I think perhaps the whole thing was a massive combination of misunderstandings? You say this was a local bar so perhaps all the local people allready have their "groups" they hang out in and take their own sweet time to include anyone new, even if you grew up with them. Also if you didn't hear something the guy said who knows what else you may have missed in a crowded, noisy bar with a few drinks in your system? This happens alot and it has been my experience that sometimes when I am buzzed I overeact a little bit and become sensitive to things I normally wouldn't even notice.I am sure they didn't take your seats to be mean or anything you just have to find your "niche" in this particular crowd . Don't feel bad about yourself maybe just drink slower next time and listen carefully for cues that are invitations or just someone wanting their "space".It really sounds like totally normal behaviour to me!:)
