Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.
I am afraid of making mistakes. I'm pretty sure it comes from my childhood, when I learned from my parents that if I did anything, I had to get it perfectly right on the first try or I would be beaten, screamed at, and go without food. So I went through childhood and adulthood afraid to try to do anything at all because I'm not perfect like other people.
Here's how this relates to my present situation. I went to a church about a month ago, and because I was new there and not a member of the congregation, I signed my name into their Visitor Book. Then I went back a second time the following Sunday, and this time I signed in as a visitor again, but this time, I accidentally put down the wrong date. Now I'm afraid to go back to the church.
Because I went to the 9:00 a.m. service, I'm thinking about possibly going back, but at the 11:00 a.m. service instead. Maybe if I'm lucky no one will notice my mistake.
Are you afraid of making mistakes? Have you ever made mistakes? Is this part of being shy?

As far as the church visitor sheet, I really don't think they'll mind that you signed in the wrong spot. Youre human and mistakes happen. We all make them. I really think the whole point of a visitors book is just to keep track of the number of visitors. I don't think it really matters what spot you signed in. I know with any church I've ever been to, members are just excited to see new faces and are usually warm and friendly. So if you want to go back, go back. :)
I'm afraid of making mistakes just like you. I think everyone's judging me for things that they clearly aren't. I would go back at what ever time is most convenient for you no matter what mistake you made. If you can find a way to cross the date out and replace it try that. Even if you just drive up and drive away take baby steps. Don't let any mistake you make for that time stay with you. I know it's easier said than done and I should probably take my own advice but try. Anyway, yes I am terrified of making mistakes. And maybe it comes from shyness but it really does seem to stem from others being overcritical of you.
We were created just the way we were ment to be. It is others who can not appreciate our uniqueness and gifts. Lets not worry about those who can not appreciate us. Lets begin to appreciate and value ourselves.
