Shopping Addiction Support Group
Oniomania (also known as shopping addiction), is the compulsive desire to shop. Similar to other compulsive behaviors, sufferers often experience the highs and lows associated with addiction. The purchase generates a mood of satisfaction, gives their life meaning, and lets them forget about their sorrows.
For a very long time, I used shopping as a substitute for human relationships.
When you are shopping, the employees in the store, or at least the cashiers, say hello to you when they take your money, and sometimes they would even say something at the close of the transaction, like "Thank you for shopping with us," or "Have a nice day."
When you've never had an actual friendship or other kind of normal relationship in your entire lifetime, as was my case, it's one of the next closest things. Sad, I guess.
Now I'm 47 years old, and ready to begin exploring the possibility of learning how to make friends. It's not an easy thing, because I have this incredible fear of my fellow humans because they've done so much harm to me already, but I've got to try.

And I tryed on this site to reach out also but relized how SOME can be more hurtful then helpful. Noticed I said SOME not ALL then it makes me relize more and more why I tend to stay to myself in todays world. Now when things tend to be hard for me I choose to no longer write post in this fourm. I will read them and respond to some that I choose to tho. My ex fiance was abusive so I looked into another site on the internet dealing with just that abuse,mabey it will work out better for me. When the lady actually had to stop working there after 40 years she was there, I felt terriable even shopping there still!
That really isn't a real relationship that we had together, just felt like something. I'm sick sometimes and guess I do use shopping sometimes instead of actual getting close to people. :(
