Oniomania (also known as shopping addiction), is the compulsive desire to shop. Similar to other compulsive behaviors, sufferers often experience the highs and lows associated with addiction. The purchase generates a mood of satisfaction, gives their life meaning, and lets them forget about their sorrows.

Hi,

I have never posted in this group and I don't know what to say.

So I guess I will confess to some reasons why I might need to

be here. I have bought things lately that I am just like what?

why?

In no particular order:

1.) hand-painted wastebasket

2.) large new white picture- frame

3.) white bedset blanket

4.) a potato plant

5.) two new sets of clothes

any advice for a former drug addict using compulsive shopping as my cross addiction and using my best friends credit cards without her knowing and having such guilt that i vomit on a daily basis and have migraines 3 times a week and extreme ocd on top of it all?? i am going to take her to see our priest tomorrow so i can spill my guts to her-feeling helpless and distraught and having suicidal ideations on a daily basis along with panic attacks almost everyday....LOST

For a while, I would just walk in a Walmart late at night and start picking up things that are on sale... underwear, toothpaste, headphones, chips....

Then just when I'm about to go pay for them I would look at my basket and ask myself why do I need to have any of these things, put them back and leave feeling like a loser. I'm learning to not be so judgmental on myself and see that at least I'm stopping this shopping just because I'm lonely situation.
Do you have that?

I have bought so much clothes. I have turned my basement into my closet. It looks like a department store. This weekend I foud some shoes that were 70% off. Great quality shoes for which were about
$180 the 2 pair were $108. This is part of my problem I seem to be my weakness, what I feel is a great deal.

I think us females tend to be a sucker for a "good deal" or sales,etc.. that's part of the marketing that is used in retail. I got myself into trouble years ago by aquiring store credit cards. I had like 10 different ones. After bankruptcy and my credit getting a little bit better I am having that urge again to open store cards so i can shop when I am broke. I have applied at a couple different places, but fortunately got turned down. My judgement tells me its a bad idea but of course old habits die hard. "I can get it now and pay later.." It's hard to battle that urge when you are in the moment and feel like you HAVE to have something or that it won't be there if you don't get it at that time.

I can relate to what hennings says - shopping (and eating, and even sleeping) because of loneliness; also sometimes I manage to restrain myself by looking at the stuff I'm plannif to buy and realising I don't need it and I put it back. Some of the time ...
