Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.
Notice my hands have been shaking at times from this post shingles pain. It is very erratic. Had trouble sleeping last night because of the fear. Had a spasm which lasted over a half hour. It was excruciating as I tried to explain to the nurse in my doctor's office...nerves, muscles and bones. I have it on my spine.
Has anybody tried or heard about the lasar ray treatment or the nerve block. Hope to see a neurologist on Jan. 21, 2008.

I know how you feel. They are going to send me to a neurologist if this final dosage of neurontin doesn't start working. I find that in the morning my finger seem to have a mind of there own. I especially notice it when I am typing. I am sorry you are going through this. If you want to talk you can callme at 480-621-7118--LeAnne

Gee your's sounds worse than mine. I am trying to sort it out. The neurologist told me to use the lidoderm patch on my back but not to use an entire patch there (this way I can save a few bucks). The part where I have the skin burning is also covered with eczema and so the patch falls off unless it is a full patch. Had to go back to using Lyrica which I wanted to stay away from. I have scarring in my groin and there is no way I can put a patch there. He basically told me to keep it under control...the pain and the spasms so I can will not relapse into a full pain cycle. Hope you get to see a specialist soon...they know more about it and can be very helpful. I am praying for you and sending good vibs your way.

Hello, this is Middione, I am new here.I had ten laser treatments, they did not help me at all.I also had the nerve block-three times, with very little results.I have pain 24/7, going into my second year. I have managed to go on with my life, and hide my pain when I am with people.

I am over my third seige. The first seige was the shingles and I had about two weeks off before I had the first post shingles seize. Tried to listen to the doctor and around two 75 mg. of Lyrica and used the lidoderm patch. However, I started using two of them and used them more or less around the clock. It seems to me the worst part is near the end of the seige. I have been without pain for a few days and frankly all I did was sleep!!! The lyrica makes me VERY DUMB...thought I locked myself out of the car, etc. Last night I had a full night's sleep and am feeling better. I am also checking out pain management and want to get the lidocaine shot and see if that will help. This has been a horrible experience and thanks for telling me not to try lasers or nerve blocks. Let's all pray for each other and send good vibs out there.
