Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.
I have a giant shingle between my mouth and nose that looks like a crusty old mound of mashed potatoes! Just thought I would share!
Feel free to check out my photos from 2011 of my lovely Shingles outbreak! Ugg. However, I also posted a photo of 3 months later and was looking much better....so take heart.....hope you are both doing better now.
