Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.

I was wondering if anyone else has soreness in the area that was affected by the shingles. I have bad soreness at times like the area is bruised. Is there any medication that will help that feeling. I have tried Neurontin and didn't like the side effects and it did nothing for the pain. My insurance won't cover Lyrica and I really don't want to go on that because of all the side effects. I was wondering about antidepressants like Pamelor or a new one for Fibromyalgia called Savella. I have not been on anything for 4 months now, but contemplate trying something again.

YES, I HAVE THE SORENESS ALSO. I DON'T LIKE THE SIDE AFFECTS OF THE DURGS THE DOCTORS GIVE. SO I LOOK FOR ALL NATURAL. HOPE THAT YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS FOR YOU. WILL BE PRAYING.

I don't know of any other drugs used for shingles. (Yes I have the soreness too- it goes pretty deep). I use neurontin and lyrica. No side effects for me- except using them all plus the Oxycodone daily- I feel a little high, but its worth it to help the pain I think. I am also on
an antidepressent I take at night because it knocks me out. Amitriptyline. I hope you find something. I could not imagine facing the day without anything for this pain.

Hi, April. I'm new here - just learning about this. But wanted to let you know, I take Savella for my fibromyalgia but it does not help the PHN pain.
