Herpes zoster, colloquially known as shingles, is the reactivation of varicella zoster virus, leading to a crop of painful blisters over the area of a dermatome. It occurs very rarely in children and adults, but its incidence is high in the elderly (over 60), as well as in any age group of immunocompromised patients.

for the Shingles? The Dr only gave me a script for Valtrex (Cost $325.00!!). What have you found works on the actual rash? I tried some alcohol and then calamine and did get some temporary relief. I hope I have started meds soon enough as I only saw the rash a few days ago. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Also, have any of you tried the Shingles cure web sites?

a doctor mentioned some kind of sulfur creme but mine had dried up by then. because the sores are dried up does not mean that the pain goes away. the pain is usually worse when you are older and if your immune system is not that great. in my case having severe allergies means my immune system is not terrific and i am 62 years old.

anyway, i heard about some kind of sulfur creme which you can apply to your skin

Hi Spunkie,

My doctor said the only thing she recommends is calomine lotion on the blisters. I didn't try it, but my husband put Neosporin for Pain on my blisters a few times and it seemed to sooth them for a little while (or maybe it was just the TLC from him ;o)).

It probably sounds weird. Mine is on my head and I been washing my hair with dandruff shampoo and it helps with the itch and the burning
