Out of My Gourd

Grew some hard shell gourds in my garden last year. They took over! This year I have volunteer gourds sprouting like weeds while I am still tripping over the dried gourds from last year.

Any ideas out there? Experience?

I did make some neat sounding maracas. They sound nice enough that I can almost forgive them for looking so gnarly. Their maker looks pretty gnarly, too.

Sell them.

Not sure where you are from, but in the South people use them to make purple Martin bird houses. When the Martin learns where it's home is, it will come back every year. They eat mosquitoes from your yard.

My daughter has those birdhouses in her yard. She bought a house last year and the owner had like a dozen of them. there was a bird in one right outside her kitchen window. So very cool. Trying to mooch one as we speak. Crossing my fingers for mothers day!!

I met a vendor at a craft show who makes those birdhouses. I thought she was gonna follow me home after I told her this story of my surplus.

Maybe I can just sell them as raw material...

    I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying.  I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there.  I think that I will start writing in it again.  It's so therapeutic.
