And here's your simple answer... a blood test.
I was diagnosed 10 yrs ago so it's hard to remember what exactly I was feeling at the time. But it was nothing 'major' though. I remember I was feeling some discomfort in the genital area, I thought it was probably just some kind of vaginal infection or something like that. They took blood at my Gyno's office and I was shocked when it came back as positive for genital Herpes! So that's how I found out. I hope your result is different than mine. Good luck to you... :)

My H had an affair in 12/10-2/11 he didn't have any reactions until 6 mos later. He has sores and I don't feel anything different, but we had a blood test and both have HV 2. Needless to say I am devastated.

I'm sorry to hear that! I've been reading alot about STD's and I truly think that HSV2 is a lesser demon than the other members of the STD family.

I learned I had H after I discovered my ex was having an affair. (blood test) I assumed my ex gave it to me, but he tested negative. I had no idea I had H until the test. I have no idea where it came from in the past. It is difficult to live with. 20% of the population has H, but most people dont know they have it. I'm greatful for this group, we can talk openly and not be scared of rejection or labeling.

I had a NASTY outbreak knew in my heart what it was. went to see a doctor and it was confirmed that's it simple as that.

I thought I was having an allergic reaction to latex, went to the ER they said they didn't know what it was, and they sent me to the doctor that is treating me now. I was on 3 days of bed rest, valtrex and the area was swabbed and came back with HSV-1 genital.

I haven't been diagnosed yet through tests. When I had my first outbreak, I was in excrutiating pain so I went to the ER and they diagnosed me by looking at all my sores.

i found out through a blood test during an annual checkup. i was doing it so that i could be extra sure i was "ok" before going to the next level with my significant other. we planned to get married and have children....now i am not so sure. he described some symptoms he has had and is getting checked to make sure as well. i feel (just found out yesterday) depressed, heartbroken, defeated...i think if i found out at any other time, the response would be different but not now...just have to wait and see how things go. He said nothing has changed as far as he feelings for me....that will be seen in time as well...

My fiance has it and has been on meds for it since before we got together. Hasn't had any outbreaks but I still caught it. Went to dr and was diagnosed and put on Valtrex. Is anybody else on it? I take it twice a day and was wondering if it makes anyone else feel really sleepy?

I began dating my now boyfriend on new years day. about a month later, RIGHT as I was going on a long time planned trip with my best friend, I noticed my glands in my pelvic area were starting to swell. Withen a couple days, While I was on this road trip, my symptoms worsened. Muscle soreness, sores on my genitals, fever. I had asked him before I left when the last time he had been checked was, since the last man i had been with has been my ex of 2 years whom I had broken up with roughly 3 months prior. I knew what it was before the sores happened. Google is pretty efficient. He got tested and confirmed type 2 herpes before I got back from my trip. I had also developed it in my throat, which apparently is rare. By the time I made it home and could get to a clinic I was in a considerable amount of pain, primarily from my throat. My tests of course from the dr. were positive. they had put me on a 10 day extra dose of anti virals and I plan on taking a daily dose atleast for a while. I have several friends with the condition and I know it affects everyone a little different. Especially in the beginning. Me and boyfriend, fortunately, are doing well. I try to stay positive
