My therapist said that I may have some attachment issues. We have only met twice so far so I don't think any diagnosis has been made. It was just something he said. I really don't understand attachment issues in relationship to an adult. Can anyone explain it? I have already googled and it wasn't much help.

I think it's based on Bowlby's attachment theory. In other words, the "type" of attachment we have with our parents can later affect the types of relationships we have with others. Give this a glance, I think it's pretty good.

Thanks Perfect.

I guess what is throwing me is that we have no way of knowing what my life was like before the age of 4. I have maybe 2 or 3 memories of things that happened when I was 4 or 5. Before that...who knows.

I have this thing...I crave love, but I fear it...the end result being I feel horrified and helpless around the people who I love.
...I wish I could have no attachments, but I've tried that and I go insane.

I have been trying to define that illusive feeling for years and you just did it.

It is such a difficult place to be.
