I just read the local news. Apparently the NY times investigated a college in my home town and determined they mishandled a rape case.
This is what happened:
18 year old girl drunk and unconscious was found on a pool table being sexually assaulted while 6 or 7 others looked on and took pictures. They were all members of the football team. Ultimately the young men were cleared. Below is the NYT article.

How the college handled this is horrible and the young woman...well...I just feel so bad for her. When I was younger I had a few drunken nights when I made some choices some would call bad but this is not what happened here. She was completely incapacitated.
I guess one of the big things that got to me is the number of young men participating in this. 8 or 9 of the football team. WTF???? This is exactly why I feel the way I do about men. I try not to feel that way but then I read another story like this and I can't wrap my mind around it. 8 or 9 involved. It is a tiny little college! That percentage is way to high.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I have no idea how these men came to view this woman as less than human. Why did they treat her like that???? How do they view their mothers? Do they have sisters? How did they learn to dehumanize and hate women so much?
Why do they think their penises and urges give them power?
Why do they think it is their right.
If I had a super power I would kill them dead. Dick first.
I got into this long heated discussion about rape and what rape is and such...and during it I found ...I think it was this study:
http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/10/world/asia/asia-rape-report/
And the study found that the biggest reason men rape is that they feel entitled to sex...followed by, well doing it for entertainment. Just something to do.

"...Our culture essentially gives rapists the message that theyre entitled to be believed and respected; their victims arent. "
I was not surprised by the reasons they give. I have experienced sexual assault as a form of punishment as well as because the man felt entitled and my feelings didn't matter.
When this was perpetrated by someone that I trusted, and said that they loved me I felt completely powerless and ashamed. The other feeling that comes through is a feeling of being broken inside and a very deep loneliness. I can feel it now, just remembering. It all comes back
You have a right to that feeling...but remember it's a canned feeling, from way back then...
Right now? you are a fierce, beautiful woman who's survived, accomplished, and fought hard to live on her own terms. A warrior. Someone you can be proud to be.
"the credit goes to the woman in the arena."
I hate to see boys disfigured and wounded by the cruel demands and constraints on their emotional selves in society, but I really want to puke when I see a boy being pumped up and kissed up to (instilled with a sense of entitlement) - by his MOTHER.
Hot button topic : (
Sons shouldn't be raised as if they have all the power simply because of their genitals and girls shouldn't be taught that their biggest value is their sexuality. The media doesn't help. Don't get me started on Brats dolls....
Too few criminals are held accountable for their actions. This includes politicians and the people in schools like this who use politics and turning a blind eye to keep their jobs and make money. Not only should these kids have one hell of a mark against their records for the rest of their lives the committee who decided to let them go free should also. Making it impossible for them to ever get jobs again.
That's my rant. I, like all of you, could say soooo much more on this subject but...well....I won't. Instead I'll go down stairs and punch my punching bag for a while to get this rage out of me.
I guess us Blokes don't like being challenged. A lot of it comes from codependent Family dynamics. (I'm from Rural Ireland where you were expected to mass produce kids, and my Family couldn't as Gran had to have a hysterectomy after Dad was born) I feel that I was robbed of a family and resent these bolshie Sisters/Cousins who say, "Family!" every second sentence.
