Sexual Abuse Support Group
Sexual abuse is a relative cultural term used to describe sexual relations and behavior between two or more parties which are considered criminally and/or morally offensive. Different types of sexual abuse involve: Non-consensual, forced physical sexual behavior such as rape, incest or sexual assault, or psychological forms of abuse, such as verbal sexual behavior or...

I have worked with a therapist...and a whole lot on my own....to help my inner children heal and grow up.
You can heal and you can all become one again.
If your insurance allows you to see anyone then it's a matter of looking in the phone book or online for psychologists in your area. You can usually send an email to them and ask questions such as "what do you specialize in" or "do you take my insurance" etc. It is best to find a therapist who specializes in sexual abuse or abuse in general. If you do not wish to share with them just yet why you want to see them you can simply say that you have a 'past trauma' and leave it at that. There is no need to divulge everything in an email or even in the first few sessions with a therapist.
I would recommend that you contact several different therapists so you can get a feel for what each one is willing to offer as help for what you are going through. Then, start making appointments with them. After the first few sessions you should know if you like the therapist and if it seems they are a good fit for you. Don't be discouraged if they are not though because not every therapist is right for us. I have been to several who were not a good fit so I left them and went elsewhere until I found the right therapist for me. That's a good reason to have several lined up, just in case you feel you need to move to the next one.
I hope this helps get you started.
Take care
thanks so much for your advice. Unfortunately, I live in the UK not the US and have no insurance or anything like that. I guess I would probably go on some sort of waiting list for months but I'm not really sure.
I saw a very good therapist in the UK for I think 40 pounds. If you can afford it, you won't have to wait. I hope that is possible for you. Otherwise, you can try to work on your own. It is also possible to work with a close friend in offering each other a kind of reciprocal therapy. It seems a bit scary to contemplate, but if you're interested and you have such a friend, I'll find the website reference for you.
Here is a list of all the support services in England. See if there are any near you and maybe ring them and ask for some advice.

Here is a link about healing with the help of close friends. To be honest, I am leery of this because too many things could go wrong. I would consider it a last resort:

This link is a list of recommended books. I myself got a tremendous amount of understanding from "Trauma and Recovery". Understanding is not the same as healing, but it is very valuable all the same.

Good luck, and please continue to share with us here. I have found this website and the support and insight of friends and strangers here to be invaluable.
